Why “Italian Craftory”

First and foremost, why the word Craftory? It’s not even in the dictionary, after all. Interestingly enough, a few people in the world already use it: like The Craftory, a NYC consumer venture capital, investing in the best consumer packaged goods brands, and a fashion Estonian brand, selling vegetable tanned leather accessories. So, as NFX‘s partner James Currier would say, we like to believe to be on the right side of the river, and to have found “the fast moving water”.

We were inspired by the word craft because it refers to an occupation, trade, or activity requiring manual dexterity or artistic skill, e.g. the carpenter's craft or the craft of writing plays, but it also means to build. So the naming Italian Craftory summarizes well both the fact that we are a company builder and the handicraft of Italy, as our founders are Italian and they like to add a pinch of made in Italy, whenever is possible.
